Why Are Wedding DJs So Expensive?

Dec 21
If you're planning a wedding, you may be trying to hire your entertainment. You may be considering a band or a DJ. If you've shopped around, then you already know that bands are very expensive, so you may have opted for a DJ, which is often normally cheaper. However, good wedding DJs are not cheap, and cheap wedding DJs are not good. :) Let me explain why.

Why Do Wedding DJs Cost So Much?

We spoke with Jason Alexander Rubio, of Austin's Best DJs & Photo Booths, who is the owner and found of this top wedding DJ and entertainment company based in Austin, Texas. Here's what he had to say:

"Austin wedding DJs (and anywhere else) are expensive because they are in high demand and they must invest in very expensive equipment. A good set of professional DJ speakers alone is around $2000. A good laptop for handling DJ mixing is about $1500 - $2000. Lighting equipment is easily another $1500 - $2500 or more. So most good wedding DJs will bring well over $10,000 worth of equipment to your wedding to make sure everything looks and sounds amazing!"

Other Services That Wedding DJs Offer

Additionally, wedding DJs often provide additional services such as room lighting, monograms, photo booth rentals, and more. So hiring a DJ can add up, but a great wedding DJ is well worth the investment. You can hire a band who will do a great job, but if you want all of the bells and whistles that a wedding DJ provides, you'll still have to hire another company (usually a DJ company) to provide all of these things.

Additionally, DJs have to invest time in researching and preparing music, setting up their equipment, and coordinating with other vendors. The coordinating part is a very essential part of making sure you have a great experience on your wedding day. DJs will work hand-in-hand with your wedding planner/coordinator to make sure everything goes as planned.

Making the Right Investment

If you do NOT have a coordinator (we don't recommend this), then you should use the money you saved from not hiring one and invest that into hiring a great wedding DJ who can help ensure that everything goes as planned. The DJs will check in with your point of contact and make sure that the timeline is followed. The DJ will also work with all of your vendors to make sure it all goes well.

Overall, when you hire a wedding DJ, you are actually getting a lot more than just music. So it's well worth the investment. All of these factors contribute to the higher cost of wedding DJs
