Considering a New Lawn? | Quality Sod & Landscape Solutions Tampa Florida

Apr 19
You are ready to make the leap and start a new lawn. But you don't know where to begin. We can help you understand the process and make sure that your grass grows well in your home.

How shabby is your yard?

Before you decide on the type of sod you want, ask yourself: "How much sunlight does my lawn get each day?"

It can be difficult to calculate how much sunlight your lawn receives. This can be determined by measuring your lawn when you are home during the spring and summer.

An app called Lumos: Sun and Moon Tracker for iOS is another way to determine shade vs. sunlight. It allows you to track the sun's position at any time and any place, as well as measuring shadows.

The warm-season grasses Bermuda, Zoysia and Centipede thrive in full sunlight. However, there are some warm-season varieties that can survive with as little as four hours of sun per day.

How much traffic will the lawn get?

Think about what you will use your lawn for. Are your children fond of playing in the yard? Are you able to let your large dogs run free on a daily basis? Is it more of an area that is a focal point in your front yard and doesn't receive any traffic?

If "yes" was answered to children and dogs, then you should choose grass that is high-traffictolerant and can be used on sporting fields like Bermudagrass. Traffic tolerance may not be an issue if you choose to focus on your lawn and look for the "lawn of month" award.

Drought Tolerance Is Important.

For established lawns, we recommend 1 inch per week of water. This includes water from rain.

Bermuda, however, is an exception due to its exceptional drought tolerance. Bermuda grass needs 38% less water, and it stays green in droughts rather than becoming dormant. Even in dry conditions, Bermuda grass can stay green even without irrigation. This Bermudagrass is a great choice for people who don't have an irrigation system.

You should also consider whether you already have a sprinkler system, or are planning to install one.

What Grass Texture Do You Like?

Have you ever heard the expression "It's just not everyone's cup"? Even if this phrase is unfamiliar, it's clear that everyone has a preference for grass.
The grass texture can remind you of your childhood yard or make you feel scratchy. We want you to enjoy spending time in your lawn.
Although you can look at photos and read about the textures, nothing beats walking on the grass to feel it.

How much maintenance will this take?

It may be something you love to push or ride a lawnmower on Saturday mornings, or it may make you dread every time you get it out of your garage.
You may not be happy with the task of maintaining fertilizer schedules if you are grumpy. You may be a proud lawn-keeper and are able to quickly measure your fertilizer.

Let's face it, the big question. Your budget will play a major role in the type of grass you choose. New lawn projects can cost anywhere from hundreds to thousands of money. Don't worry! There are many types of turf to suit every budget. You don't have to sod your entire yard. However, you can seed a portion of it.
