The Japanese historical anime series, Vinland Saga, is gearing up for its next season. Though you may think it is related to Vinland, as described in two Norse sagas, surprisingly, the series derives its name from the Danish invaders of England, commonly known as Vikings.
The series had aired 24 episodes in its first season from July to December 2019. The manga series of the anime series has also won the 36th Kodansha Manga Award for Best General Manga, making its rise to charts of popularity.
The story so far(Spoiler Alert!!)
Set in 1013 AD England, mostly conquered by the Danish King Sweyn Forkbeard, the series narrates the story of his sons, Prince Harald and Prince Canute, who engage in a fight for their dying father’s throne.
But, the main attraction of the show is the Young Thorfinn, who grew up listening to the stories of old sailors who had traveled the ocean and reached Vinland. Through the stories, Thorfinn comes to know about the warm and fertile land, which is unlike the frozen village in Iceland, where he was born.
Vinland, as Thorfinn knew, was a place where there would be no need for fighting, unlike his current life as a mercenary. The older he grew, Thorfinn knew that war was his home, and nothing could defy this truth. Following the series, the war between England and the Danes grew worse with every year, death becoming the only constant.
Amidst the raging war and innumerable deaths, Thorfinn must find the man who brutally murdered his father, Askeladd, and take his revenge.
When and what to expect in season 2?
The series is soon to be back with its second season, though nothing has been confirmed by the makers yet. Going by the current situation, the series will hopefully hit screens in 2021.
As of now, there are no updates on the plot of the upcoming season.
