‘Babylon Berlin Season 4’: Release date, plot, cast and everything you need to know about this German show

Babylon Berlin is a 2017 German TV series based on German author Volker Kutscher’s novels. With an 8.4 IMDb rating and largely positive critic reviews, Netflix released the series in 2018. The third season came out on Netflix on 1st March 2020.


Babylon Berlin is a story set in 1929, Berlin. It is about the police inspector Gereon Rath who has been given an assignment to dismantle an extortion ring, and Charlotte Ritter, who is seeking to become the police inspector.

Set in a time where people were beginning to realize their newfound freedom, the plot is centered around the rule of the Weimar Republic. Even though democracy had been really fragile in Germany and things were seen improving, there was a lot of poverty and post-war trauma.

Season 1 consists of mainly Communists, Soviets, and Trotskyists.


Some of the essential cast members are-

Volker Bruch plays Inspector Gereon Rath, he transferred from Cologne to Berlin and is a police inspector and was a combat veteran in the Imperial German Army. Suffering from PTSD and guilt over the death of his brother, Gereon was into self-medication.

Liv Lisa Fries plays Charlotte Ritter, she belongs to the slums of Neuk├Âlln and has her eyes set on becoming the first female homicide detective in Berlin.

Peter Kurth plays Detective Chief Inspector Bruno Wolter, who is shown as the antagonist in season 2.

Matthias Brandt as Councillor August Benda, the head of the Berlin Police, who is a lot of faith in the newly established Weimar Republic.


The release of season 4 has been officially confirmed. As per Liv Lisa Fries, the production for season 4 is expected to begin in late 2020 or the beginning of 2021. Thus, the show will most probably release in 2021 or later.
