Meaden was born on February 11, 1959, in Somerset. Her parents divorced when she was young. She lived with her mother, Sonia, and her sister, Gail. After some time, her family shifted to Brightlingsea in Essex. She left school at the age of 16. She had a great interest and passion for business in her early days. She started her own export agency at the age of 19 in Italy. Although the agency was a complete failure, that didn’t stop her from stepping into other business ventures.

From leading pony rides along Minehead seafront to becoming one of the most successful businesswomen, Meaden has traveled a very long distance. Her glass and ceramics export agency failed after 18 months. In 1988, she joined her family business of amusement arcade and later on became Operations Director. In 1992, she shifted to Weststar Holidays and became a Managing Director within two years. She bought most of the company’s shares in 1999. In 2005, she managed to sell Weststar for £33 million to Phoenix Equity Partners and held onto her remaining 23% stake. In 2007, she sold her remaining stake for £83 million to Alchemy Partners.
In 2009, Meaden purchased a textile mill called ‘Fox Brothers.’ In 2011, she opened an online store called ‘The Merchant Fox’ for selling luxury goods. On August 3, 2006, she joined the third season of BBC Two program Dragons’ Den. She was the only female “Dragon” on the show. She also partnered with Robin Windsor to participate in BBC One dancing show Strictly Come Dancing. She is also a member of the Council of Ambassadors of the World Wildlife Fund.
Meaden married her husband, Paul, in 1993. They have no children. The couple currently resides near Langport in Somerset. She is an atheist. The Shawshank Redemption is her favorite movie. She is a big fan of rugby.
