The Orville Season 3 is coming back!
Heavily inspired by Star Trek, The Orville is set to return with its third season on Hulu! Yes, it is true! It is not Fox’s show anymore. Creator Seth MacFarlane confirmed this during an interview in San Diego Comic-Con 2019. The third season consists of 11 episodes. After the major success of the second season, fans are anxiously waiting for the return of season 3.
The series is set in the 25th century. The show’s protagonist Ed Mercer (Seth MacFarlane), is an officer in the Planetary Union’s line of exploratory space vessels. Mercer is also the captain of USS Orville (ECV-197). This show heavily parodies the original Star Trek series and its successor Next Generation. But it also pays homage to both of them.
What Can We Expect From Season 3?
The third season is expected to tell us about the new adventures of USS Orville and its crew. It is also rumored that this season will focus more on dramatic plots and action-based narratives. 12 to 15 more minutes of air time will be added to each episode. Another thing which was confirmed in Comic-Con is that the episodes will drop weekly. They are not going to be released all at once.
Seth MacFarlane will return to reprise the role of Captain Ed Mercer. Other cast members including Adrienne Palicki (Commander Kelly Grayson), Penny Johnson Jerald (Dr. Clair Finn), Scott Grimes (Lieutenant Gordon Malloy), Peter Macon (Lieutenant Commander Bortus), Halston Sage (Lieutenant Alara Kitan), J. Lee (Lieutenant John LaMarr), Mark Johnson (Issac) and Jessica Szohr (Lieutenant Talla Kealy) are also expected to return for the third season.
Season 3 was going to release in late 2020. But the production has been delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Plus, the makers are more ambitious towards the third season. So, it seems that the third season will be released in 2021.
