Midhunter is an American crime thriller television series which is created by Joe Penhall. It is based in the true crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit. The book is written by John E. Douglas and Mark Olshaker.

The series was first streamed on Netflix on October 13, 2017.  The series was later on renewed and the second version of the series got released on August 16, 2019. The series is based on the genre of crime drama and psychological thriller. Not only it is directed but it is executively produced by Penhall, David Fincher, and Charlize Theron. The story of Midhunter revolves around two FBI agents and a psychologist who uses their wittiness and skill-based approach to interview some imprisoned serial killers and thereby solve some ongoing cases with thrill and action. The show displays how an individual brain thinks and up to what extent it can go and how it can be tracked down and restricted.

Season 1 of the series was based on criminal psychology and criminal profiling and shows the occurrence of events during the years of 1970s and 1980s. Season 2, on the other hand, is based on the Atlanta Murders that occurred between 1979- 1981.

The first season puts light on the notorious/ smart serial killer Edmund Kemper( Cameron Britton) and he is seen helping the FBI in his own way to understand/ inspect how a criminal mind works.

Season 2 is based on the real murder case performed by Wayne Williams, who was held culprit for murdering two men but was never proved guilty for killing around 28 – 30 adolescents/ children.

In early 2020, director David Fincher has announced that he is putting the series Midhunter on hold, and the audience should not expect the series to be streamed anytime soon. But if it returns it will be a treat to the audience’s eye with more real-life and crime stories.
