It has been so long that we have patiently waited for a sequel to Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows that now even when they have pushed back the release for a year, it seems too hard to wait any longer. The first movie debuted in 2009 and the second in 2011. Both earned a lot of critical acclaims and collectively made one billion dollars in the box office.
Inspired by the works of Arthur Conan Doyle, the stories of Sherlock Holmes is a favourite to the masses.
So, when is it coming out?
It has been confirmed that the movie will be out on 22nd December 2021. Keeping in trend with the previous release patters the movie is expected to be out during the holiday season. With a time period of two years to prepare, the production is expected to start sometime towards the end of 2020.
What will it be called?
Marvel has created the trend of using a colon and then an original title to name sequels. For now, the movie is being called Sherlock Holmes 3. But it won’t be called that once the production begins. So we can expect an original name that has a similar feel to Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
Well, there is the fact that the writer is different. Chris Brancato who is known for co-creating Narcos, and for writing in shows like LAw&Order, was tapped by Warner Bros to write the screenplay of Sherlock Holmes 3.
Is there a trailer yet?
The production hasn’t even started yet, but we can expect the trailer to be out sometime in mid-2021. In the meantime, you can check out Money Heist – which is due to be released in a few months. Or you can check out the trailer of Stranger Things Season 4 ( you will be relieved when you watch it, I promise)
Who all are coming back and who is new?
Robert Downy Jr. will play Sherlock Holmes, Jude Law will play Dr.Watson. The potential villain in the upcoming movie will be played by Paul Anderson (best known for his role on Netflix’s Peaky Blinders) who will play the role of Colonel Sebastian Moran from A Game of Shadows.
What will be the plot?
We can expect the plot to pick up where A Game of Shadows left off. Sherlock, in an attempt to protect Watson and his wife, Mary from Moriarty ( his ultimate not-so-likeable nemesis) jumps from a building and both of them are immediately presumed dead. It is certain that Sherlock is NOT dead, and in the upcoming movie we can expect the characters to explore their own emotional realms and watch Watson coping up with an old friend coming back to life.
